IV therapy is a fast-acting treatment for a variety of conditions, including chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and hangovers. As the 4th of July holiday is upon us, Boulevard Family Clinic is offering a variety of nutrient infused IV therapies.
What is IV Therapy?
IV therapy has been used for decades in hospitals to treat a range of conditions, from dehydration to nutrient-absorption disorders, but it’s increasingly offered at independent clinics and through house call-type services that pledge to help people feel better without clogging already-burdened emergency departments. And, while it may be most buzzed about as a hangover cure, IV therapy is also given to people with migraines, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as those who want a nutritional, athletic, energy, beauty or immunity boost. Tina Joy, APRN -CNP, founder of Boulevard Family Clinic in Edmond, Oklahoma says “It works because if you look at vitamins and minerals, along with hormones and other chemicals in the body, these are the body’s building blocks. They’re our body’s natural pharmacy, and they’re used in numerous physiological pathways,”. By delivering a high concentration of vitamins and minerals straight to the bloodstream, the body can reap their benefits more effectively than popping pills, which aren’t entirely absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract.
Does IV Therapy Really Work?
We’ll share one guy’s personal experience with IV therapy. A patient enjoying an extended vacation woke up early after a night of partying. He wished that he had not woken up at all. Head throbbing, queasy and didn’t feel like going to the next party, when he passed an IV clinic – advertised as a hangover cure – later that morning, he went in, remembering the time a friend’s wife had gone to the emergency room to get an IV after drinking too much. The 45-minute treatment, which involved an intravenous infusion of vitamin-rich fluids, turned his vacation around. While that morning, he had sworn off alcohol forever, that night, he hit the town again.
“It was unbelievable,” he shares. “Right away, you start feeling it, but 45 minutes later, you feel almost 100 percent – no hangover.” He’s since been to IV clinics in New Orleans, San Francisco, South Carolina, Atlanta and visits one locally near-weekly – hungover or not. “It just makes me feel better – it’s amazing,” he says.

Boulevard Family Clinic now has CBD and Essential Oils great for natural healing and pain relief!
What is CBD oil?
CBD is one of many compounds, known as cannabinoids, that are found in the cannabis plant. Researchers have been looking at the potential therapeutic uses of CBD. Oils that contain concentrations of CBD are known as CBD oils. The concentration and uses of different oils vary.
How CBD works
All cannabinoids, including CBD, attach themselves to certain receptors in the body to produce their effects.
The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. It has two receptors for cannabinoids, called CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors.
CB1 receptors are found all around the body, but many of them are in the brain.
The CB1 receptors in the brain deal with coordination and movement, pain, emotions and mood, thinking, appetite, and memories, among others. THC attaches to these receptors.
CB2 receptors are more common in the immune system. They affect inflammation and pain.
It used to be thought that CBD acts on these CB2 receptors, but it appears now that CBD does not act on either receptor directly. Instead, it seems to influence the body to use more of its own cannabinoids.
Benefits of CBD
Because of the way that CBD acts in the body, it has many potential benefits.
Natural pain relief or anti-inflammatory properties
People commonly use prescription or over-the-counter drugs to relieve pain and stiffness, including chronic pain.
Some people feel that CBD offers a more natural way to lower pain. A study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine found that CBD significantly reduced chronic inflammation and pain in some mice and rats.
The researchers suggest that the non-psychoactive compounds in marijuana, such as CBD, could be a new treatment for chronic pain.

BioTE® Medical provides bio-identical hormone subcutaneous pellet therapy to help balance hormones in both women and men.
What is Pellet Therapy?
Pellets are tiny, custom-compounded therapies for symptoms that stem from hormonal imbalances. This therapy keeps hormone levels consistent through the day and avoids rollercoaster-like effects from orally administered or topically administered hormones. The pellets BioTE uses contains bio-identical hormones, derived from natural sources. The pellets contain hormones identical to the ones found in the human body. Studies have shown that bio-identical hormones have fewer side effects than synthetic hormones.
Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)
As each patient’s symptoms are unique, so is each patient’s path to hormone optimization. Most patients report some symptom resolution in as little as two to four weeks, but full optimization may take up to six months. Your journey will be customized to fit your specific needs. It takes more than one to two weeks for your hormones to get out of balance, so expect it to take time to resolve.
Hormone Imbalance in Men
Hormone replacement therapy can help anyone whose hormones are out of balance at any time. However, as much as a third of the population may experience hormonal imbalance as they age. We also encounter circumstances in which a man has never experienced balanced hormones, as evidenced by symptoms including exhaustion, irritability and extreme mood swings.
How can I get started with Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination must be conducted by a licensed “medical examiner” listed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry. Boulevard Family Clinic in Edmond, Oklahoma is a licenced DOT medical examiner.
If your employees are designated as “safety-sensitive” for the Department of Transportation (DOT) – meaning their job can impact both their own safety and the safety of the public – they need to get a regular physical to maintain compliance and keep working. A DOT physical follows strict guidelines mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), ensuring that CDL drivers and other safety-sensitive employees are in good health to work safely.
With these strict guidelines, DOT physicals can sometimes seem like an overwhelming process. To help simplify the process, here is a brief overview* of what your employees should bring to the exam, and what to expect once they get there.
What to Bring to a DOT Physical
All drivers need to bring a complete list of their medication, including the doses and their doctors’ names and addresses. To save time, it’s also recommended that drivers fill out the health history questionnaire before coming to the clinic.
To make sure the exam runs as smoothly as possible, drivers with certain medical issues need to bring the appropriate documents or items. For example:
Drivers with vision or hearing problems need to bring their eyeglasses, contacts, or hearing aids. Drivers with diabetes need to bring the most recent lab results from their Hemoglobin A1C (HgAIC) and their blood sugar logs. Drivers with heart-related issues need to, at minimum, bring a letter from their cardiologist that outlines their medical history and current medications, and indicates that they are safe to work.
If you are in need of a DOT Medical Exam and have any questions about what the exam covers, call us at 405-562-1870.
Boulevard Family Clinic is offering flu shots for $10 per family member. Bring the entire family in!
Why do you need a flu shot?
Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination. These antibodies provide protection against infection with the viruses that are in the vaccine. The seasonal flu vaccine protects against the influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season.
Is it a good idea to get a flu shot every year?
Because flu viruses evolve so quickly, last year’s vaccine may not protect you from this year’s viruses. After vaccination, your immune system produces antibodies that will protect you from the vaccine viruses. In general, though, antibody levels start to decline over time — another reason to get a flu shot every year.
Can you catch the flu from the vaccine?
The vaccine is made from an inactivated virus that can’t transmit infection. So people who get sick after receiving a flu vaccination were going to get sick anyway. … But people assume that because they got sick after getting the vaccine, the shot caused their illness.
Walk-ins are welcome! Come get your $10 flu shot this year at Boulevard Family Clinic. Prefer to make an appointment? Call us at 405-562-1870 and get scheduled for your influenza vaccination today.
Are you tired of the weight loss struggle? Whether you have 5 pounds of 100 pounds to lose, medically supervised weight management can help. Advantages include an assessment of medical obstacles and customized programs with maintenance plans.
Many people who are obese or overweight need outside help, especially when excess weight affects their health. Medically supervised weight loss is an option for some – and a specialized diet is just part of the program.
As a family medicine clinic and obesity medicine clinic, Boulevard Family Clinic in Edmond, brings a dual perspective to treating obesity. The main advantage is that Tina Joy, Owner & Nurse Practitioner, has training in how to treat weight conditions which are seen as multifaceted medical issues, not failures of willpower.
Patients get a comprehensive medical exam focused on their weight, diet and exercise history. Patients are assessed for medical problems related to their weight, such as sleep apnea, prediabetes, diabetes, anxiety and depression. It’s not unusual to find that patients are on several medications that actually make them gain even more weight. We address conditions such as low thyroid levels or prediabetes and can substitute problem medications with weight-neutral or weight-loss-promoting drugs.
Unlike commercial diet plans that you follow on your own, we are your support team and can monitor your weight loss journey. Call Boulevard Family Clinic 405-562-1870 and ask us how our weight management program can help you!
Boulevard Family Clinic now offers BOTOX®! Why choose BOTOX®? BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries.* BOTOX® Cosmetic has a record of experience that aesthetic specialists know and trust. And, the safety and efficacy of BOTOX® Cosmetic have been evaluated in both Allergan sponsored clinical trials as well as in 417 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals.
The Benefits of BOTOX®
BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.
BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet.
For the crow’s feet area, your specialist will inject 3 areas of the orbicularis oculi, the muscle that frames the side of the eye. This will be repeated on the orbicularis oculi muscle on the other eye.
Injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause crow’s feet lines temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.
For the frown lines area, your specialist will administer 5 injections into muscles in your forehead—1 in the procerus muscle and 4 in the corrugator muscles.
Injecting BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause frown lines temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. The result is a reduction in the appearance of those lines.
